Bagias, Andreas
Dr. Andreas Bagias is a graduate of the
Law Faculty of the Universities of Athens and Cambridge.
From Cambridge he has been awarded his LL.M and Ph.D degrees.
He has held scholarships from the British Council and the
Greek State Scholarships Foundation. Dr. Bagias is a member
of the Piraeus Bar Association and has been qualified as
an English Solicitor after successfully taking the Qualified
Lawyers Transfer Test. In the past he worked with Greek
and international law firms both in Greece and abroad. He
specializes in shipping, corporate and commercial law, international
commercial agreements and project finance. He has also dealt
with several insurance and international transport cases,
and he has been involved in international litigation and
arbitration. In 2003, he acted as an international legal
expert on behalf of the EU in relation to the re-organization
and supervision of the Russian insurance market. Over the
past few years, Dr Bagias has focused on shipping and project
finance, M&A, and international commercial agreements.
His recent publications include the Greece chapter (with
Tom Kyriakopoulos) on Project Finance in the “Getting
the Deal Through” series published by the International
Bar Association and the Global Competition Review; the chapter
(with Tom Kyriakopoulos) “Greece: The Current State
of the Law” in the Euromoney Project Finance Yearbook
2007/2008; and the Greece chapter (with Ioanna Lazaridou-Elmaloglou)
on Mergers and Acquisitions in the Practical Law Company
Handbook: M&A 2007/2008. He is fluent in English and
has a working knowledge of French.
