Papathanasiou, Marie – Athena

Dr. Papathanasiou has been educated in France and the UK. She holds her B.A. in Law from the University of Poitiers in France, a Maitrise in International & European Law and a DEA in International Private Law, both from University of Paris II Sorbonne, an LL.M in International Environmental Law from the London School of Economics. From LSE she also holds her doctoral degree which she was awarded for a thesis on the liability issues of oil pollution from ships under international law. In the past she has worked as legal counsel in Central and Western Europe, the UK and North America for several shipping, environmental and energy companies as well as investment funds. In recent years she has built on her strong academic and professional background in Energy & Natural Resources and deals exclusively with energy law and investments. Ms. Papathansiou has served as member of the board of several institutions and companies. She is currently a board member of Ambiente Milano Fondazione, an environmental foundation based in Milan and London, and an advisory board member of Global Sustainability Challenge and of Challenge Capital Partners. She is a regular speaker and chairperson/moderator at international energy and clean technology conferences. She joined Kelemenis & Co. as an Of Counsel in 2009 to contribute to the firm’s strong energy practice. She is fluent in English and French and has a working knowledge of Italian. Ms. Papathanasiou is a member of the Athens Bar Association.
